Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

The first step in preventing stretch marks is to develop a routine skin care program. Don’t make your program so complicated or cumbersome that you will not stick with it. A simple plan that you will be able to follow easily on a daily basis will prove far more effective than a more elaborate routine that you will only follow on a hit and miss basis.

It is wrong to think that you can eat as much as you want because you are now feeding both yourself and your baby. You should instead follow ideal diet requirements from your doctor that will not starve you or your baby but will also result in just gaining a little over 25 extra lbs. You can also perform pregnancy exercises to make sure that you keep to your ideal weight.

Pregnancy can be an exciting time for first time mothers. It is also a challenging time. Women have to cope with headaches, unusual food preferences, nausea, and the dreaded appearance of stretch marks not only on their bellies, but also on their breasts, buttocks, thighs and arms.

Though pregnancy marks are not dangerous but it can result in some odd looks in the belly skin especially for those who are in fashion world. They may feel bit embarrassing in wearing swimsuits or any other bold and trendy dresses due to these unwanted marks.

During the 6th and 7th months of pregnancy is the time when when stretch marks usually appear. The number one reason for stretch marks is that the skin is forced to stretch too much, too quickly. You can equate your skin to a piece of elastic, if you over stretch it, it will lose some of its elasticity and won’t return to its original form, and you may even find that it becomes wrinkled along the edges. The same can happen with your body.

You need to stay within the ideal weight range through your entire pregnancy. You need to gain no more than 5 pounds in the first trimester, and 1 pound per week during the second and third trimester. You should look at a total of 25-35 pounds during your entire pregnancy.

Another type of oil that you can use at home is mandarin oil. This oil is also known for being quite soothing, and it will help in moisturizing your skin and giving it the nutrients which it needs to help fight the appearance of these scars. If you already have stretch marks, another highly recommended product is emu oil. Emu oil has often been used for treating these scars because it penetrates the lower layers of the skin, repairing the damage that has been done to the collagen, reducing the appearance of the scars which are known as stretch marks.

It is not only good for the eyes, but it also promotes healthy hair, bones and nails. It repairs injured skin and get rid of your scaly skin if you have one. Vitamin A helps prevent stretch marks in that it makes the skin soft and full, stimulates the renewal process of the skin cells, which leads to the thickening of the skin. Lastly, it increases collagen content, which leads to the improved elasticity of the skin.

Be sure that your diet contains adequate sources of the nutrients needed for healthy skin. Remember, stretch marks can result from nutritional deficiency. Be sure to consume foods that promote skin health. Eat plenty of zinc-rich foods such as fish and nuts. Foods like carrots, milk and citrus fruits are high in vitamins C, D, and A. Choose 2-3 servings daily of protein-rich foods such as eggs. Sufficient protein is essential.
