Stretch marks snuck on me. I had gone through 30 or so years, never knowing what they even were, only to look down one day and see stretch marks across my inner thighs. It didn’t happen because I was overweight, and it didn’t happen because I was pregnant. For me, it was the result of rapid muscular growth, due to cycling. The growth of my quadriceps muscles had stretched my dermis so that it couldn’t keep up with the epidermis. This left ridges, a lighter color than my skin. Sometimes they itched and I was horrified by them. The days of short shorts were over.
I started then to find a way to eliminate stretch marks. I remembered an episode of Seinfeld, where Kramer decided to first use butter to shave with, only proceeding to using butter as an all-over moisturizer. After an afternoon in the sun turned him into a roasted turkey-type delight, I thought again about using butter. But, it turns out that Kramer was not all that far off base – cocoa butter is the preferred way to eliminate stretch marks. Cocoa butter moisturizes the skin with vast amounts of Vitamin E.There are now laser treatments that reverse the pigment damage of stretch marks, making the ridges seem less obvious to the naked eye. Stretch marks are, after all, both a change in color and a change in depth of the skin, so returning the stretch mark to a more normal color is essential to total healing. If you are a guy reading this, thinking it doesn’t apply to you, then you are wrong. Many men have stretch marks. Go in to any gym and look at the guys who are lifting the heaviest weights. Take a good look at the men with darker skin and you will see light-colored stripes across their chests and shoulders. This is because their muscles grew too fast and their skin couldn’t maintain its elasticity. Women get stretch marks because of fat gain or loss, pregnancy, and also if they gain muscle – like me.There are many products that claim to eliminate stretch marks, but few actually work. Be careful to purchase a product that has been tested, proven, and has a long track record so you don’t cause further damage to your skin.
